Bike Safety Day Coming To Marjorie Post Park, Town Announces

"With the enjoyment of riding comes a need for appropriate responsibility," Oyster Bay Town Councilman Steve Labriola said.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — As warmer weather approaches Long Island once more, the Town of Oyster Bay has announced a measure to keep kids safe when they start spending more time outdoors: Kids Bicycle Safety Day, being held at Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa Saturday, Apr. 11.

Held through a partnership with Massapequa’s Kiwanis Club and the Nassau County Police Department, town officials said the bike safety day would be open to kids of all ages from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bikes and helmets will need to be brought from home, while lessons taught during the program will include the importance of helmets and how to prevent reckless riding.

“With the warm days of spring rapidly approaching, the topic of bicycle safety is of the utmost importance as children of all ages head out to enjoy the beautiful weather,” Town Councilman Steve Labriola said. “With the enjoyment of riding comes a need for appropriate responsibility. When riders of all ages understand how to share the road responsibly, we reduce preventable injuries, ease traffic congestion and encourage safety and fun.”
