Cloaked
Over two thousand years ago, Jesus triumphantly and graciously, hailed with a grand ovation, entered Jerusalem upon a donkey with a strategically placed cloak between Him and the foal.

Lent is often associated with palms, and yet more cloaks were spread to the ground by the applauding crowd in a majestic attempt to joyously hail and prepare for the new king.

Praises were being sang, extolling God for His tender mercies and fulfilled promise as the garments were trampled.

A cloak is a loose-fitting outer garment without bodice or detectable form and with its large floppy hood can conceal one’s identity, weaponry, or intent.

As such, its multifaceted possibilities could attest to a dubious and surreptitious fashion statement, camouflage to fade into the background, or a veil to shroud oneself.

If it is not purported for mischief, maybe it is a type of disguise, a mask we put forth, because we feel unworthy.

The objective is completely dependent on its owner as intention rules.

Perhaps the cheering citizens were ridding themselves of their cloaks as a symbolic rebirth and relinquishing antiquated beliefs so they could freely assimilate the divinely ordained hierarchy. Jesus’ visit marked a novel era galloping in on an epochal scale.

A period of renewal, hope, self-governance, tolerance, and revealing the true self.

This can only occur when we dispose of the fabricated façade that we represent and acknowledge our place as children of God.

Is your true identity cloaked?

Lent begins on March 2nd with Ash Wednesday, and signifies that the time has come to disrobe and discard the layers we adorn ourselves with, look within, step into the Light, and accept our Holy inheritance and the responsibility it denotes.

Jesus arrived ready, knowing full well what lies ahead. What awaits you? Forty days of introspection could point the way…
