Columbus Lodge Holds Italian Feast and Festival

Annual event draws large crowds.

It's one of Massapequa's most popular annual events 

The Sons of Italy Columbus Lodge held their annual street fair Sunday and large crowds turned out on Broadway to sample the food, meet their neighbors and check out goods from local vendors.

"It's very nice to be out in Massapequa and to enjoy the nice weather and great food," said Sen. Charles Schumer, who was on hand.

While many were selling goods and entertaining, Drug Free Massapequa was out trying to spread their message.

"We're trying to heighten awareness of the heroin and prescription drug epidemic here in Massapequa, and actually all throughout Long Island," said DFM's Joun Budnick.

 "We do as many public events as possible. People don't understand just how bad the drug problem is here in Massapequa, so we're trying to educate kids about just how addictive this stuff is."
