Deprograming, A Forecast

I’ve been ill, so I wondered if I could have misheard.

I really hoped I had, but as the words were repeated on the TV several times, I knew there was no mistake.

I had not misinterpreted the message. I heard the words loud and clear and they chilled my entire being.

Several voices have now been raised advocating “deprogramming,” of American citizens who supported a different Presidential candidate than the one now assuming power.

They are not unknown personalities calling out anonymously in the dark of the night with a vague threat.

No, one is a nationally known and hitherto respected female TV personality; the other, a Freshman Congresswoman, and the third, a powerful figure in the media.

As shocking as their declared intention is, it is even more appalling to believe they are unafraid to publicly state such a plan or hope or even frightening ambition.

The horror of their combined belief that one human being has the moral right to change another’s God given right to think is well beyond my expertise to describe. I also doubt if it was a random decision uttered without a comfortable level of silent and subtle support.

At one point in time, not so very long ago, most of civilization joined forces to exterminate that form of propagandization.

We naively believed the battle had been won and free will triumphed.

When I listened today to Katie Couric, along with the emphatic Congresswoman A.O.C., and the esteemed Washington Post newspaper columnist, Eugene Robinson, I knew that hadn’t happened.

While Americans struggled through 2020 watching their ranks grow thin and become fragile from the onslaught of a virus, perhaps there was another more sinister menace quietly gaining strength,.

The battle is still raging, and I wonder is anyone listening as history verges on being repeated .

Do I dare to question what is the next remedy for those “despicables” who fail deprogramming?
