DogFest Walk 'n Roll Tops $41,000 for Canine Companions for Independence

Man's Best Friend took center stage Saturday at the 22nd annual Canine Companions for Independence DogFest Walk 'n Roll in Massapequa

Despite a wet day at Marjorie Post Park, supporters enjoyed pet friendly family activities, including, food, raffles, games, costume contest and canine agility course. The event was a fundraiser sponsored by the Canine Companions for Independence Long Island Volunteer Chapter, and emceed by special guest Jay Fiedler, former NFL Quarterback, and Long Island native. Canine Companions Northeast Region Executive Director Debra Dougherty says fundraisers like DogFest allow Canine Companions to continue providing highly trained assistance dogs to children and adults with disabilities (including veterans) at no cost. Canine Companions for Independence is the largest non-profit provider of trained assistance dogs with five regional training centers across the country. Established in 1975, Canine Companions provides highly trained assistance dogs to children and adults with disabilities and is recognized worldwide for the excellence of its dogs, and quality and longevity of the matches it makes between dogs and people.
