Town Board Meeting

Meetings of the Oyster Bay Town Board are conducted in the Town Board Hearing Room, Town Hall East.

Meetings of the Oyster Bay Town Board begin with public hearings. These are items which, under law, require a public hearing before the Town Board. All such hearings are advertised in advance as to the date, time, place and subject matter. Public hearings are held on a wide range of issues including proposed local laws, amendments to the Town Code, rezoning and special use permit applications, and traffic regulations. Decisions are these hearings are generally reserved and the record is left open for a minimum of two weeks to allow residents who could not attend to submit their comments in writing, either by letter or e-mail, to be part of the official record for that hearing. Letters can be sent to any Town official at Town Hall East, 54 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, NY 11771. E-mails can be sent by clicking on the Contact Us link on the left side of this Web page.

Following any scheduled public hearings, the Town Board moves on to the Action Calendar. This consists of a list of resolutions to be voted on. Some concern routine matters such as calling for a public hearing on a specific issue, accepting bids for Town purchases and road improvement projects, and authorizing the expenditure of funds or the issuance of bonds for financing a purchase.

Once the Action Calendar has been completed, the Town Board holds a Public Comment session. At this time, residents are given an opportunity to address the Town Board on any issue of concern.

Residents who want to speak during a public hearing or during the public comment portion must fill out a speakers form prior to the meeting. These are found on a table in front of the Town Clerk's desk in the front of the Town Board Hearing Room. Speakers for both Public Hearings and Public Comment are called in the order in which the speakers forms are received.
