Expiration Date Included

We plan our vacations, weddings, and other important details with depicted exactness and anticipated joy.

Having a plan is perceived as desirable, even admirable, and is a sign of determination, perseverance, and future-orientation.

But sometimes, too much forethought and plotting can be seriously deleterious and downright devious.

Once upon a time, household appliances performed happily and efficiently for decades without a hiccup, and if a problem arose, it was quickly and fairly inexpensively repaired adding to the value and longevity of the reliable merchandise.

Nowadays, there is a new spin on the amped up production lines, spitting out countless domestic machines of lower quality and cheaper grade, programmed to expire at approximately the ten-year mark, and demoted to the rank of disposables.

Egregiously, that new television, dishwasher, dryer, and refrigerator was intentionally built to peter-out and belly-up way before its enduring long-lasting predecessors.

This underhanded limited lifespan scheme is no accident and has a woeful term to match its end-of-days mentality called planned obsolescence.

With its contrived strategy to mass-produce frail, poorly designed products that will falter or swiftly become obsolete, it puts a tight squeeze on customers' funds with its consumerist spending ploy.

It also fills landfills and pollutes.

The trauma does not end with your wallet or when these ephemeral apparatuses are buried and not nearly as thoughtfully or reverently as the interred inhabitants of the Roman catacombs.

Millions of iPhones, iPads, and computers are dumped yearly because servicing is either too costly or non-existent.

To ensure an uptick in sales, a software conglomeration is planning to do away with updates and upgrades to its older computers by the end of 2025 leaving hundreds of millions of fully functioning computers heading for the junkpile.

This mind-blowingly wasteful and greedy maneuver not only unnecessarily occupies space, but its chemically created plastics that are continuously extracted from the Earth and exploit and deplete natural resources, contaminate the land along with corrosive sulfuric acid in disposed automobile batteries, and other leachable toxins from discarded equipment that seep into the soil and water.

Electronic waste is already a global nightmare, and this will compound it exponentially all in the name of corporate revenue and profits.

Less than a fourth of electronics are recycled with their plastic components starting out as extracted oil, coal, and fossil fuels which are then mixed with other toxicants and carcinogens finalizing and memorializing the plasticized devices.

This has cumulative effects, and the assembly line is speeding up to replace these soon to be obsolete machines and gadgets with slightly upgraded current versions.

My son, Tom, stated, "Corporate waste is the biggest offender, and individual use of resources is minor, even negligible comparably."

Even though that may host a smidgen of validity, with eight billion people dwelling on Earth, each person's use of commodities and resources becomes a staggering summation, harming the planet and people.

The Golden Rule applies here, because this requires immediate action by all parties.

We are the Earth's Stewarts, and She needs and deserves support and advocacy.

God generously and lovingly created the Earth as our home, and affectionately and endearingly extracted our Souls from and of His essence, not as a vaporous overlying entity but rather filling and surrounding each cell granting complete embodiment in our physical bodies as a unified Temple.

Due to this profound integration and interdependency, a damaged or ill body guarantees emotional and spiritual repercussions because the body, mind, and Soul are inextricably interconnected as one with each impacting the others.

Care for the Earth, and She will care for you.

We are the Lord’s Holy Beloved. Let’s act like it.

You can help by purchasing high quality, durable, sustainably sourced, and repairable appliances, furniture, and clothing. Whenever possible reuse and recycle items to others, and do not be ensnared by the allure of shiny new products.

~ "Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires," Romans 8:5.~
