Give Unto

Caesar

When I opened the calendar, I realized today is traditionally the time I normally begin accumulating the year’s financial records for upcoming tax payments.

Then I decided this year there should be two accountings; one for Caesar; the other for God.

While still collecting scraps of paper for the manila folder I dig out each December to send to my dependable tax expert; today I chose another one, pristine white and unblemished, This will be for another accounting, far more important than my tribute to Caesar.

Ever since childhood I have been fastidious about never allowing myself to be financially overdrawn.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been nearly as circumspect emotionally or in giving tribute where due.

I wasn’t totally aware of that lack until I began today’s fiscal accounting. Immediately, I realized there are more things that belong in my asset documentation than silver, gold or sterling,

It is impossible to determine the value of love, when intertwined with constancy, both subtle and obvious. Time is equally difficult to have a definitive value since it can never be returned or refunded.

My second folder will definitely require far more energy and recollection than the first.

The assets seem to flow back easily, The Fabulous Four have now enlarged into an amazing group, I feel the chain of love and support that travels from San Diego to Ct and arrives in Michigan, daily phone calls often rightfully chiding me for being too reclusive; weekly FaceTime visits to California and the dependable weekly arrivals of both Father and Son to brighten a Sunday,

The ability to continue on life’s journey in comfortable circumstances which while giving the pretense of independence also allows the comfort of caregivers if and when needed.

A gift of health for decades that has allowed me to reach this level of aging.

Along with the blessings of friendships, both past and present, that have made my journey far easier.

I quickly become aware how far more important my tribute to God is than the one I traditionally give to Caesar.
