baby, hands up! - was happily sung by the duo ‘Ottawan’ in the early 1980’s zippy tune pleading for the woman to succumb to love as the participants joyfully raise their hands and accept love.

It plays like a feel-good congenial love fest that radiates outward for all inhabitants to partake and enjoy.

The term ‘hands up!’ is also unfortunately, renowned for its alarming negative connotation when hollered by assailants robbing innocents or wrong-doers being arrested.

Simply, an open hand has nothing to hide, and facilitates an eagerness to comply.

Hands up is an act of surrender, a non-verbal truce, assent, an obliging.

When hands are in the up position, there is no division as the truth is plainly evident.

Interestingly, all palms are colorless.

Hands Up people! And notice the sameness.

Examination purports a uniformity and similarity undeniable to what may be the only visual proof as to the veracity of Oneness portrayed quite eloquently yet inconspicuously as a foundational marker and link of mankind.

Discrimination and segregation have always existed and persevered due to a deep indelible line drawn labeling us and them and obfuscating eternal esotericism.

It is intriguing how man automatically pinpoints the slightest dissimilarities but lacks the ability and foresight to observe prolific commonality.

Skin tone is a façade that has allowed others to capitalized on the afflictions of the world providing grave penalties for its hostages.

The soles of our feet are also colorless.

Interesting terminology, sole and Soul.

The truth lies in the Soul.

WE exist as a Divine piece of God, who wills and orchestrates everything.

Emerging from The Holy One’s very essence, stipulates that we are equal, homogenous, the same.

We are all one Soul, one skin with a beautiful range of hues.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr strived for equality, and he did so peacefully with non-violent protests identifying the ills of segregation and calling for brotherly love as he enthralled and propelled a disjointed rigid nation.

His activism lives on piercing the persistent darkness and slowly blurring antiquated boundaries that have withstood the ages.

Yesteryear’s blissful melody of “Hands Up!” can leave one scratching one’s head because looking around today, it feels more like “Where is the Love” by the Black Eyed Peas.

Luckily, Jackie DeShannon’s 1965 hit got it right with her heart-warming song verse: What the world needs now is love, sweet love. It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of. What the world needs now is love, sweet love. No not just for some, but for everyone.
