Heart to Heart

Perceived as a holiday of “desire,” filled with giddy promise and hopeful exuberance, what is it you want? The usual suspects all materialize: candy, fancy dining, jewelry, clothing, and flowers. Step aside for a moment, and let your Soul speak. The aforementioned are essentially manufactured for the body and its physical senses. These will satisfy for a few hours, days, or perhaps months with your swanky new outfit or redefining article of attire.

Then what?

Valentine’s Day began as a religious holy day. Isn’t it just like humans to crumple it up, smooth out the crinkles, and proselytize their own reign of “this is how it should be”? No longer evangelized as a day to pay tribute to the several Christian men, who bore the Valentine name, and were martyred for their courageous, selfless acts, it has been revamped into a day of gift giving under the premise of romantic LOVE. Even the title birthed and canonized as St. Valentine’s Day has lost its spiritual tone as it was cajoled and reformulated into the shorter and less meaningful ‘Valentine’s Day.’ No one is knocking the affections of love, but perhaps we should garner focus on the origins of it all, which is unconditional love, and it exists for all people – not just those who receive a present.

God is love, and therefore is the source. He created everyone and everything of and from Himself, which makes you and all those around you a precious tendril of love. Sentiment and adoration rank high on the love meter. Let’s make sure we share them with each person – Valentines for everyone!
