I Totally

Understand

Agility was never my “Thing.”

Rather I vividly recall my protective Mom’s outrage when Aunt Rose described her awkward oldest niece as “clumsy.”

Probably truer words were never spoken, but it alerted my protective parent to an obvious deficiency in her firstborn.

Shortly afterwards I was enrolled in a weekly ballet class and began mandatory exercises nightly scrupulously observed by Mom, Aunt Helen and my giggling younger sister.

Ellen was excused from the new routine because she was endowed with grace from the moment she entered this world.

However, none of the mundane memories are pertinent at the moment.

The hated description leapt into mind as two events recently coincided in my new abode,

A repair man arrived to repair my ailing dryer which is perched above my healthy washing machine.

Both live in a small closet and that is also where the long awaited gentleman caller needed to make his visit.

As he tentatively prepared to examine and hopefully not pronounce a death sentence on the incapacitated appliance, there was another unforeseen arrival.

It was an unexpected delivery of a new laundry basket enclosed in a box the size of a human being.

Of course this necessitated temporarily confining the courteous repair man in the closet until the item was scrupulously unpacked.

Due to the dimensions of the living space, he could not emerge until the item was extricated from the mammoth container.

Only then could the two man delivery team declare mission accomplished.

And as I sat watching the scenario evolve, I remembered the acute need for ballet lessons and wondered where I could enroll once again. The long forgotten ability to Assemble’ or Jete’ came immediately to mind.

When I finally rescued the captive in the closet I did not question why he departed so quickly and truly doubt if he will ever return.

And I will totally understand if he doesn’t.
