Indeed It

It was always our joke throughout the marriage, even more so as we began to age together.

“Remember, I don’t drink or smoke.”

were the words I uttered often when returning home laden with colorful bags from a shopping excursion.

My favorite utopia for shopping in those remembered years was frequently on the east end of the famed Island of Long where several designer outlets thrived.

Of course, I wish he were still here for multiple reasons but I seriously doubt if we would share any laughter today about the escalating prices not exclusively in luxurious women’s wear, but currently on most supermarket shelves

I no longer shop for others but cringe at the cost of food for America’s young families.

Currently:

Bacon is $8 a lb,

Butter is $5 lb.

Chuck for beef stew $12,73 lb.

and on and on as you walk down the familiar grocery aisles,,,,,,,,

I may still not drink or smoke, but admit to other indulgences, and one is Fritos.

A bag (supposedly to be shared with friends) is now $4.59.

And peppermint pattys, an indulgence both he and I once shared, has also risen up the price escalator and currently are $1.59 each

He and I were blessed to laugh together often, but I seriously doubt if the current cost of living would be a cause of humor for either of us,

and certainly not for young parents today,,

“But those were other times” as the TV pundits remind us daily,

“And today is different.”

Ah, yes,

And so it is!!!!!!!
