John J. Burns Park in Massapequa was ordered closed Thursday because of the possibility that some of the light poles in the park might be dangerous.
The park was shut down until further notice after the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall of more than 2,500 poles.
Engineers will inspect the poles in Burns Park to see if they fall under the criteria of the recall, the town said in a statement issued Wednesday afternoon.

The CPSC has issued a recall notice involving stadium light poles manufactured by a Texas based company called Whitco which is now out of business. Poles over 70 feet high can fracture or crack and fall over, posing a risk of serious injury or death to patrons and bystanders from being hit or crushed, according to the CSPC.
There have been eleven instances where the poles have fallen.
