The Labors of Back to School

Humidity still drenches the air, the sun continues to scorch tender skin, and chlorine mists smother the nostrils of backyard swimmers, but school is calling. Parents are readying themselves with pre-season school supplies, clothing, and shoes, as well as adjusting their thoughts to a more focused flow and way of being after months of idle, casual, unscheduled days. They hear the admonishing bellow – get ready, be prepared, don’t wait until the last moment. The children scurry to finish up the mandatory summer reading and its persnickety paperwork, while reacclimatizing their minds to the new uploading academic year. It will require great effort since brain fog has eagerly wafted in, and relaxed and chilled the gray matter for weeks due to the deprivation of direction, scholastics, or assignments. I miss the summer already.
I hope you enjoyed your intermission from the structured routine of learning no matter how short or inglorious it may have been. Everyone needs time to regroup and repair. Even God rested on the seventh day after creating His vast universe. We must all labor in one way or another. The young must infuse academia into their knowledge base, integrate life’s unique and blooming challenges, and navigate the unfortunate pitfalls. Adults grapple with the same juvenile hierarchy of struggles to some extent plus a whole additional plateau of rigors, rivalries, and rejection. Essentially, learning is always occurring even if one is no longer in a classroom. Are you immersed in one of the more difficult chapters? Don’t despair. Keep turning the pages, feel the content, and allow yourself to understand its purpose. If you are overwhelmed, ask for The Lord’s help.

A Student’s Prayer
Almighty God,
We ask for your guidance and wisdom in the school house, workplace, and in the home. As we are all students situated on various levels as life unfolds, teach us what is required to thrive upon your earth, and give us the patience and endurance to see it through, while fulfilling our Souls as only you can. Inspire the children to be hopeful, respectful, and to work diligently. Grant each parent a robust character that demonstrates firm and loving care, and allow all teachers to serve in a manner that is kind, encouraging, and bearing mastery of their skills. Let all factions of the universe coincide with your love and mercy to produce fruit and a world that only knows peace and love.
Amen.

Proverbs 2:10-11, “For wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you.”
