From Lockhart To The Library: Massapequa Authors Publish Personal Narratives

The narrative projects are the product of a month of work for Lockhart Elementary School students.

MASSAPEQUA, NY. — Lockhart Elementary School students got to live the life of an author over the past month, wrapping up that month-long effort with the publishing of their very own personal narratives Wednesday.

As part of a nonfiction writing unit, students were tasked with drafting, editing, illustrating and publishing a personal narrative based on the theme “family traditions.” Whether it was a tale of a birthday, holiday celebration or a vacation with their family, Lockhart authors were tasked with writing to their five senses — sight, smell, sound, touch and taste — while practicing sound sequencing. District officials said the project also emphasized the mechanics of writing, teaching students to focus on grammar, punctuation and spelling as they drafted their stories.

On Wednesday, the students were able to put their finished products on display, celebrating the end result of their hard work in a ceremony with their families and other special guests.
