Lockhart School Votes on Koda Bench
Massapequa school to expand Bucket Filler Campaign in a new way.

Lockhart School has a wonderful opportunity to expand our Bucket Filler Campaign in another way this year. We have been chosen as one of the recipient elementary schools of a Koda Bench. This bench is intended to promote friendship on the playground. It is a perfect addition to our Bucket Filling Campaign that already includes students pledging to not say, “You can’t play,” in an effort to be more inclusive of all students. Koda is a Native American word meaning friend or companion.
This bench is being designed and built by Massapequa High School students. Mrs. Schneider’s art students have created the design choices from which our elementary students will select. Once we complete the vote, Mr. Desantis’ technology students will build the bench. It will then go back to the art students for painting. The final component will be the installation for all our students to enjoy. After a very close race Lockhart students chose the, “Friends are the Family we Choose for Ourselves” (Trees with Little Birds) by two votes.
