I do realize how blessed I am. I am well aware of it and seldom wish things had been different.
However, there are a few minuscule exceptions.
I do so wish I had learned a few more mundane things. I could easily have traded the six months of geometry for learning how to open and reseal the many “easy to open” items now lurking in my refrigerator and on my pantry shelves.

Unfortunately, the world of self seal is well beyond my scope of expertise. I have reluctantly abandoned my favorite mouth wash because no longer can I fight the “easy to open” cap complete with vague arrows. The obscure directions became a battle I consistently lost with each new bottle purchased until I finally surrendered and admitted defeat.
My favorite nitrate free bacon now arrives with a handy red dot on the corner of the plastic package. Sadly, however, the dot is so pale I need a magnifying glass along with my contacts to find it. When I excitedly locate it and follow the instructions (I must admit that I am pretty good at that) nothing happens. The little red dot and I never quite seem to communicate. Reluctantly, I soon realize I must seek another option rather than forego breakfast.

I hate to admit this, but that’s when I do use a scissor. Of course, nothing reseals after the amputation of the easy seal, and once again I face failure. On a happier note, however, then I am able to have a slice of bacon with my morning egg
Either I am buying more products that have discovered the world of “self-seal” or I am rapidly losing the expertise of learning new skills. Normally, I don’t find myself easily depressed (except when it snows more than thirty days in succession} and I cope relatively well, but I am not doing quite so well with this new challenge..
I wonder if there is an on-line tutorial to help those of us who are afflicted with the inability to open and close packages properly. Shopping has suddenly become a much longer process as I scan the displays not checking prices or ingredients, but rather hoping to find products that are not “self sealing,” or “easy to open.”
Perhaps this is one of the factors of aging no one alerted me about, but I admit I desperately need help.
