Lost Tortoise Reunited With Owner

The 77-pound tortoise was brought into a Massapequa veterinarian's office after it was discovered roaming the streets on Wed. afternoon.

MASSAPEQUA, NY - The 77-pound tortoise who was brought into a Massapequa veterinarian's office after it was found on the street has been reunited with his owner.

A spokesperson from the vet's office confirmed that the tortoise was reunited with his owner on Thursday afternoon.

The tortoise was discovered by a Nassau police officer in Massapequa Park around 2nd Avenue on Wednesday.

He appeared to have been "very well taken care of" and was in very good condition health wise.

The owners went to claim the tortoise, who is named Tito, after seeing the media coverage on Thursday, according to a report in Newsday.

Tito had escaped after the family accidentally left the backyard gate open.
