Magic Mushrooms

Magic Mushrooms
Not the psychedelic ones that you’re probably envisioning, but something far better!

Recent science and technologies have revealed that certain mushrooms can gobble up plastic waste in a matter of weeks.

With 381 million tons of plastic and its insidious microfibers inundating our oceans and terrain yearly, this holds remarkable and quantifiable promise.

Even with widespread recycling, only nine percent of all plastic ever manufactured has been recycled, and to further add to the insult, fabricating new plastic is a very lucrative business, which means that there is very little incentive financially to do the right thing.

With a truckload of plastic being dumped in our oceans every minute, there is no time to delay remediation.

All this plastic doesn’t just benignly float around and innocently clutter.

Marine life munch on it with even the tiniest plankton also feasting upon it.

The perils are exponential, because plastic is not inert, and absorbs the ocean’s pollutants, chemicals, and wastes.

So, when the fish dine on these microfibers, they also ingest these harmful contaminants, which will increase toxic loads and sicken them.

The larger plastic particles will remain in the organism’s gut since they are indigestible, sometimes filling the belly, which will preclude space for nourishing fare, lending to a slow and painful starvation.

What about the fish we eat? All these facts apply and endanger the consumer with chemicals inherent to the plastic (hello BPA, phthalates, and petroleum) and everything else they soaked up in the adulterated waters – yum!

Ninety-one percent of used plastic cannot be recycled due to its inferior quality, and at best may be turned over into carpeting.

The real solution is to not purchase plastic, in particular the single use variety, which heads straight to a dump or ocean.

It is imperative to be mindful of how we live as there is only one Earth, and she is crying out for our assistance. Even the smallest action makes a difference.

~ ”The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein,” Psalm 24:1. ~
