Massapequa Florist Gives Out 2,000 Blue Ribbons to Honor Brian Moore
Flowers by Edwards tied blue ribbons and gave them to patrons free of charge to honor the young officer's memory.

Tying a ribbon around a tree has become a traditional sign of remembrance and solidarity. Neighborhoods are dotted with yellow ribbons around Veterans Day for military forces or pink for breast cancer awareness in October.
This week, miles and miles of Massapequa streets are dotted with royal blue ribbons in remembrance of Brian Moore, the NYPD officer from the neighborhood who lost his life Monday.
“I graduated with Brian’s dad and all the kids in our family graduated with Brian,” said Laurie Logan, a florist at Flowers by Edwards in Massapequa. “We are all Plainedge grads here…It was the least we can do.”

Logan hand-tied more than 2,000 blue bows and gave them out free of charge this week in a simple act of solidarity in the wake of Officer Moore’s tragic death.
Flowers by Edwards had already run out of ribbons Tuesday night and had to order another shipment, which are due in store next Monday.

Moore, a 2007 Plainedge High School graduate, lost a two-day battle for his life Monday after he succumbed to injuries from a gunshot. The 25-year-old was shot in the head while on duty in Queens Village Saturday evening.
“Cops mean something to us and this is the way of us doing it. It’s the only thing we can do,” Logan told CBS New York. “I wish we could do more for the Moore family, but I hope in someway this helps them.”
Logan and the Flowers by Edwards family were swamped Tuesday with patrons taking ribbons and ordering arrangements to leave for Moore’s family.
“So many have purchased things for the family here and left them on his family’s steps,” Logan said, adding they will begin working on floral arrangements Wednesday for Moore’s wake in Bethpage.
