Massapequa School Budget Vote, Board Election Tuesday

What you need to know.

Massapequa residents will head to the polls Tuesday to vote on the proposed 2015-16 school budget and elect school board candidates.

The proposed budget of $189,746,159 is a zero percent spending increase over the current year and includes a .95 percent hike in the school tax levy.

“We have spent several months deliberating and considering the concerns of our community members to develop a spending plan that allows us to continue on this path of success while proposing a tax levy increase of 0.95 %, which is, once again, significantly below the mandated New York State tax levy limit for our district,” said Superintendent Lucille Iconis. “The proposed budget maintains all of our instructional programs and attractive class sizes while allowing us to keep up with our rapidly changing world with new technology initiatives for our students.”
