Massapequa Park, NY, May 11, 2014...#Massapequa wouldn’t be the same without the thousands of baby boomers who spent their childhoods here from the 1950s through the early 1980s.
That’s the focus of a recently published book Massapequa: A Pictorial History Through The Eyes of Baby Boomers and a related event that begins at 7 pm EST this Thursday, May 14 at the Bar Harbour branch of the Massapequa Public Library.

Rich Klein and Lisa Glass, co-authors of the book, will be joined on stage by other Pequa boomers, including Wade Preston, former star of “Movin’ Out” on Broadway, and their Berner ‘79 classmate.
Preston, who has warmed up many times for Billy Joel, will perform at the piano at the beginning of the event and also talk about his essay on growing up in Massapequa (Park). He is currently touring with Shotgun Wedding, which recently recorded its first album. Other speakers include: David Riederman, MHS ‘81, a hotel executive who is a driving force in the success of Massapequa’s annual Career Day and who also wrote an essay in the book, and John Podsiadlo, who spent his entire career in District 23, including serving as the only principal at Carman Road School. Bill Colfer, president of the Historical Society of the Massapequas, will also be one of the special guest speakers.
Klein and Glass will deliver a multimedia presentation highlighting some of their favorite photos and pages from the book and show some of the other Pequa photos that didn’t make the cut.
The hosts also want to make the event interactive and will encourage guests to take the mic and share their own memories of Massapequa baby boomer years.
The book, published in late December 2014, is available on loan at the library and also for purchase via www.facebook.com/massapequabook. The book can also be bought for $35 and picked up in Massapequa Park by emailing your request to massapequabook@gmail.com.
Fine art photos shot exclusively for the book by Glass and Klein -- previously on display in the Westfield Sunrise Mall - are now on exhibit in the entrance of the Central Avenue branch of the Massapequa Library through May 31.
The pair, who met at Carman Road School in kindergarten, will also be exhibiting their #photography at Astoria Bank on Park Boulevard throughout August 2015.
Through the generous support of Town of Oyster Bay CYS, Klein and Glass are also currently exhibiting their other #LongIsland prints in #Syosset at the Department of Public Works building (150 Miller Place).
