Massapequa’s Strawberry Festival 2015 was a great success in spite of the rain. The Historical Society of Massapequa hosted the annual event to raise awareness in the community and remind residents of the history that Massapequa holds.
All local vendors were welcome as long as they were selling hand-made or home-made items. Fresh strawberries were brought in by the case from Mattituck for visitors to purchase. A banjo group played from 11:30-2pm and filled the air with the sounds of summer in the country. Women of the historical society donated their time and by baking the most delicious strawberry shortcake for the event. 4th graders at Lockhart Elementary created a diorama which was displayed in Old Grace Chruch. Their teacher, Joanne Markowski, proudly posed for a photo next to the amazing display.
Many thanks to the Boy Scouts of Troop 660, for many hours of hard work to set-up and clean-up at the event. They helped to carry cases of strawberries, put up tents, tables and chairs, set ground stakes, secure displays in the wind and establish water and power for the food stand.
