MLK… Mirroring the Way
The dawn is rising. What will it bring? Is there something on your mind, perhaps you have a dream?
Don’t hold back; let it unfold. Hurry, quick before the chance passes, and it grows old.
It is there for a reason – bold, bright, and true. It holds the key to the future, and the innate essence of you.
You, from the Lord… a creation quite grand. One of His Spirit, and nudged along by His Hand.
It isn’t always easy to obey the thoughts in our head even when we know it is God speaking directly to us. Requests to do what we perceive as undesirable or unrealistic rank rather low on our overloaded spectrum of daily busy-ness. He repeats Himself over and over, and we pretend not to hear, make excuses that forever block the avenue of His Divine wisdom, or we agree halfheartedly, but somehow merrily let it go – unfulfilled and abandoned.
What if Martin Luther King had this lackadaisical, can’t be bothered, or Me first mindset? “The Dream” would have been lost, and with it every hallmark repercussion, vital nuance, and painstaking step toward equality and mankind embracing what the Heaven’s decreed. There are consequences for every action. The same is true of inaction. Possibilities wither, and uncharted pathways become covered in moss and various other organisms that conceal what could have been.
Sometimes, God guides us to do great things with monumental outcomes that are unimaginable to the limited human mind, but oh so apparent to Him who sees and knows all. Our narrow vision keeps us safely cradled in a soft warm cocoon, but there comes a time when we all must break free. Many do this with graceful ease adhering to all of the mandatory regulations and traditions, while others struggle with the impending division slowly gnawing on the silken fibers, and then there are the few, who voraciously gobble their way to liberation ignoring all the customary codes with a flagrant disregard for their shunned wreckage. There is no correct style. Freedom comes with a stiff price tag, and we all must cough up coins for it.
Dr. King knew his ideas and words worried and infuriated the masses. When fear rocked him, he wore his shield of courage, and persevered. He made it look easy as he coursed a multitude of threatening and violent obstacles in a time where emotions were literally worn on one’s sleeve, and mirrors reflected all that should have been disposed of and banished from humanity’s plate. Mirrors reflect light. A mirror in darkness is unseen, and does not cast an image. Dr. King mirrored a path of light and love in an era of dingy desolation. He heard what the Almighty told him; he saw it in a dream.
Thankfully, MLK’s dream is alive and well. He prevailed. Now it is your turn. What is God asking of you?
Romans 12:2, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
