Not better

Nor Worse, but Different

Sister Mine,

We weren’t best friends.

Often we disapproved of each other.

There were things I remember, and you believe never happened

But in the quiet of a dark night, we both relive moments only we knew and acknowledge the truth that only we shared.

I laugh on rare occasions, yet you can instantly bring me to tears of merriment.

We don’t look alike, nor ever did we dress alike.

You were always the essence of confidence while I was wrapped in fear.

You knew how “to work a room,” when I hid in the shadows.

You were the success in business that I was not.

We seldom visited after our parents departed this world.

Our children barely knew each other.

And yes, there were many valid reasons for our life long emotional separation.

But if you leave before I do, there will always be a hole in my heart.

The unique choices, we made early in childhood, were based on living in the shadow of others, and I admit neither you nor I have any regrets,

However, I know we both wish it had been not better nor worse, but different, and

we had learned to enjoy each other as much as we shared love

You are sister mine, and ever will be.

And I will love you forevermore,

and yes, always regret things had been not better nor worse, but different.
