Not Just Another

Day

It was to be the last day of “Q” and possibly still is.

I had begun a mini celebration, placing an online order for two almond croissants from the nearby Common Good bakery.

Concierge graciously committed to making the drive-in pick up a possibility.

And my first vaccine inoculation has been scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Things were beginning to return to some semblance of normality, or so I optimistically believed.

Most residents have already received the vaccine, and one dear friend was released from the hospital yesterday.

And yes, it is Friday, and I believed and/or hoped the dreaded C had made its final exit from our residence.

That was until the phone rang.

A remarkable woman, soft spoken, kind and gracious fell victim last night to this insidious invisible foe. Ellen, who was a quiet example of strength to all, left our world yesterday.

One of her stalwart neighbors is now also hospitalized.

And while we, for a brief interlude of peace, believed we had conquered this silent Spector of menace, obviously, apparently, we were wrong.

The best is yet to come, but at the moment, it has not yet arrived.
