Body Recovered From Nassau House Fire
Police say the man did not die in the fire, but appeared to have killed himself.
UPDATE: 1:15 P.M.: Nassau County police say the man pulled from the North Massapequa house fire Tuesday morning appears to have killed himself, and was not killed by the fire.
Police say that, after the fire was extinguished, the body of a 66-year-old man was found in the garage with a fatal gunshot wound. Police say it appears to be be non-criminal. His name is being withheld at this time.
More than 60 fire fighters from the North Massapequa, Massapequa, Seaford, Bethpage, South Farmingdale, Farmingdale, Wantagh, Levittown, North Bellmore, Bellmore and East Meadow fire departments were at the scene to fight the blaze. Police say two fire fighters received minor injuries. One of them was treated at a local hospital and released.

Police say the fire appears to have been started in the front of the house. The Homicide and Arson/Bomb squads, as well as the Nassau County Fire Marshal, are investigating.

The North Massapequa Fire Department responded to the fire on Winding Road at 4:41 a.m. When they arrived, fire fighters found a two-story home engulfed in flames, and had reports of people trapped inside.
Trucks and fire fighters from many neighboring departments responded to help fight the blaze. Around 5 a.m., fire fighters pulled one person from the building and pronounced them dead.
The fire marshal is currently investigating. One fire fighter received a minor injury.
