Yes, it's finally spring...well, at least in name, anyway. But don't let the dreary weather outside fool you, because spring break's right around the corner, and if you're going to start planning, it might as well be now.
But what to do? While spring break often conjures up visions of relaxing in vacation hot-spots such as Miami or Las Angeles, locals should realize that there are many closer (not to mention cheaper) options available near by.
Well, fret not, fellow Massapequans, for we here at Patch have dug up five solid suggestions for Long Island-based fun this spring break.

- Greenport: Located on the North Fork, Greenport is a charming seaside town that's full of curious little shops, restaurants, museums, and a restored Art Deco movie theater. A working seaport since the 1700's, Greenport also has a busy marina for you sea-faring types.
- Heckscher State Park: This State-operated park includes 20 miles of trails to hike and bike on, swimming in the Great South Bay, picnic areas, boating, and, most of all, a full campground for those truly wanting to get away from it all.
- Port Jefferson: Another active seaport town, Port Jefferson offers unique retail shops and eateries, historical landmarks, parks, and the famous Port Jeff ferry, which regularly runs to Bridgeport, CT and back.
- Northport: Yet another village by the sea...Long Island certainly has a lot of those, don't they? But don't let that fact deter you from visiting this quaint and artsy location, chock full of antique shops, boating docks, amazing restaurants, and friendly people.
- Long Beach: The place to go if you're looking for fun and sun in the sand, Long Beach is a diverse community full of shopping, dining, and, most of all, a beautiful beach renouned across Long Island for it's quality.
