Save or Delete

ABRACADRA!!!!

Like the magicians of yore, I made it happen in one minuscule second.

My document was erased from the face of this vast earth.

.And that’s exactly how it happened.

When I called Apple, the experts of expertise, today and they couldn’t give me an answer, I realized how complicated our world has become.

Of course, the six people I spoke to at length on the Apple Support team were courteous, intelligent and anxious to help me in my predicament. However, despite their combined intellect and experience, they had no answer.

In my early morning pre-coffee anxiety, I inadvertently deleted something. Yes, of course, it was something I really wanted to save. With one misplaced finger on the Ipad rather than hit copy I touched delete, and now I am told my manuscript is gone forever.

I find that impossible to comprehend. Nothing disintegrates that fast, not plastic, paper or produce. Yet 376 words on an IPad can float away into the mysterious beyond, infinitum. I kept thinking it can’t be. It shouldn’t be. But it was and is.

Then I thought of the paradox when so many things are so difficult to eliminate in our lives. How with just one quick swipe of a finger we can totally extinguish something we hope to save..

I wonder if I could purge the sadness I have felt as easily, would I? Perhaps not, since that very emotion is one caused by an earlier one of love, happiness and joy. All sadness is a reaction to the loss of a more beautiful emotion.

If I could, would I choose to relegate my emotion into the land of never reclaimed, exactly the way I did with a document when I hit delete on my Ipad?

I think not. I realize I prefer to keep the sadness with me because then I will also remember an earlier love.
