Should Massapequa Park have an Emergency Care Facility?
Post your thoughts on a standalone ER facility.

The possibility of creating an emergency care facility in Massapequa Park brought out a crowd to last week’s village board meeting.
Many residents came to express concerns over the possibility of building a stand alone facility on Sunrise Highway.
Village officials say no decision has been made on the facility and that hearings will be held once property is secured by the North Shore LIJ Health System, which was chosen to build a facility. But they do acknowledge that they are looking at Sunrise Highway as a possible site.

Opponents expressed concern about heavy traffic in the area diverting ambulances and the possibility that such a facility might draw patients with drug problems to the area.
Those who support the facility say it can save lives, particularly in the cases of heart attacks and strokes where every minute counts.
