Some Very Special Pets Available for Adoption this Week

2 wonderful dogs and a brilliant cat all in need of finding a home.

While every week I have the pleasure of introducing Patch readers to some of the cuties Long Island animals available for adoption, every so often I send out a special plea to help those who are in need of a little extra help. Please read about Murdock, the dog fighting victim who is as sweet as they come...Amy, a trailer park rescue...and Katie Bell, who comes straight from Kentucky in hopes to find a new furever home.

So here’s the scoop on Murdock: Murdock is a 6 ½ year old male pit bull who came into the shelter as part of a cruelty case, after his owner was arrested for dog fighting. Murdock arrived with fresh wounds and old scars on his face and legs, a severely injured left eye and worn down teeth. Until this week, Murdock was being held as evidence in the legal case against his former owner, but that all changed this week when the owner pleaded guilty to his charges of dog fighting, and Murdock was finally “freed”! He has overcome this first hurdle, but here comes the tougher one: Murdock needs a home!!!!

Murdock LOVES people, toys, and even walks well on a leash! Staff and volunteers at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter describe Murdock as a complete sweetheart with a heart of gold, he is a love, a mush, a kisser, a cuddler, and everything you’d expect from your furry best friend. And even though Murdock needs a solo dog household, he can very happily and easily pass a dog on the street without so much as a glance.

Murdock deserves to feel what it’s like to be in a loving, safe home with people who would do anything for him. Please, if you or someone you know is interested in adopting him, call the shelter ASAP!!! If you can’t adopt, please pass his info on to EVERYONE you know! And right next door at Last Hope Animal Rescue is this gorgeous girl named Amy! This lovely lady was the first cat to walk up to volunteers during a Trailer Park rescue and wouldn’t let them leave without taking her and her babies. She is the sweetest cat and only 1 year old. Amy would make such a great addition to your family! For more information, check out her webpage at http://lasthopeanimalrescue.org/amy/

Katie Bell! The southern beauty currently residing at Last Hope Animal Rescue. Katie Bell is a Patterdale Terrier which is a rural regional variety of dog, similar to Feists. They resemble medium-size, leggy, smooth Fox Terrier mixes. Katie Bell looks like a Patterdale. She came to Last Hope from a Kentucky shelter with a middle name and a ton of charm! She is a sweetie about 2 years old and full of energy. She will do best with someone who will love her and teach her basic manners. Might that person be you? Thanks for reading and please remember to always adopt- never shop!
