Thanksgiving Table
Pass the turkey. Where’s the yam casserole? Can I please have the stuffing? There are no more rolls?! No one’s appetite is heartier than on Thanksgiving – twenty four hours of gratitude, family, food, and fun festivities. It has different meanings for everyone, but hopefully all of the “usual” components will fill your day in one way or another. Since appreciation outlines the parameters for this holiday, one must be extra careful not to complain, bicker, grumble, or dissent as these unflattering traits completely negate a thankful heart. And no matter what your situation details, you have an abundant harvest to be grateful for… really. It is not always obvious, but perhaps that is the point. We must seek, then digest, and finally assimilate the quantifiable as it must be made “ours” in a verifiable and understandable manner. It can be likened to our relationship with Jesus since none of us has the identical rapport or connection with Him.
We are each unique, and need to ascribe to this as we all have a purpose, mission, and destination. This is not a condemning sentence, but rather God’s loving objective. Feeling a little down… like a well searched and scoured chest at a rummage sale? A new perspective will convert you from ransacked to rapturous. Your Thanksgiving table will be overflowing with food; because at the Table of Plenty, God’s precious blood will be spilled upon the Altar for Mass. It occurs every time we gather at the Altar of Life and receive Him, and it is a much needed reminder, rejuvenator, and a purifying agent for our tired and dulled Souls.
When we give thanks for the succulent fowl and appetizing accompaniments, do we remember to thank God who provided them? While we sit holding our loved ones, do we gesture towards The Almighty for this beautiful moment? Everything you have and everything you are can be traced back to a loving Deity who creates, supplies, and supplements all that is. How loved and fortunate we are – indeed.
Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord, Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
