Time Marches

On

Perhaps it is time now for Americans who recognize the power of the vote to relinquish current political agendas, at least for a brief moment.

And possibly with reluctance acknowledge it is time for our country to admit an undeniable reality.

Both potential Presidential candidates have something in common.

Both men have spent approximately the same time in this amazing world.

If our current President seeks reelection in 2024, he will be more than a year older than Ronald Reagan was at the end of two terms.

If he chooses to run for reelection in 2024, he will be asking this conflicted country to elect a leader who would be well in his 80’s at the end of his tenure

If Donald Trump chooses to challenge Joe Biden as the Republican nominee, both candidates would be close in age.

I respectfully dare to disagree with Former President Trump’s recent statement that "Life begins at 80"

As someone who has “been there,”(and wishing it was otherwise) I feel obliged to sadly admit 80 is too old for many things, including leading a country.

Admittedly , I can already hear voices in my own neighborhood, protesting,

“What do you mean????”

But unfortunately it is true.

Ronald Reagan was diminishing as he aged, although his decline was well hidden.

Today’s world no longer shields wrinkles, confusion or disabilities from hidden cameras or TV debates. Such subterfuge is no longer possible or desired.

Today allows every minuscule mistake to be amplified, and no gaffe go unrecorded.

History may record that both gentlemen, despite conflicting viewpoints, have served their country well if they acknowledge it is time to go gently into the night and endorse younger successors.

I wonder if either one will choose to do that and thus serve our nation one more time.
