Town Of Oyster Bay To Host Hurricane Preparedness Symposium
With the possibility with Hurricane Jose to hit the East Coast this week, residents can prepare at the event on Monday night.

MASSAPEQUA, NY – In the wake of recent hurricane activity and with the five-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy upon us, Oyster Bay Town officials announced that they will host a Hurricane Preparedness Symposium on Monday night.
The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Massapequa Firehouse on 510 Hicksville Road in Massapequa.
Hurricane Season runs through Nov. 30 with peak season from mid-August to late October.

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration forecasted an above-normal season, predicting a 70 percent likelihood of 14 to 19 named storms,five to nine hurricanes and two to five major hurricanes.
Additionally, with the possibility of Hurricane Jose threatening the East Coast, the Lead Tropical Expert from the New York Office of the National Weather Service will join Supervisor Joseph Saladino at the Hurricane Symposium.

“Long Island is no stranger to the devastating impact of Mother Nature," Saladino said. "Hurricanes Harvey and Irma remind us of the distress we experienced during Superstorm Sandy, and this five year anniversary of the storm provides us an opportunity to recommit ourselves to hurricane preparedness.
Employees from the Town of Oyster Bay Department of Public Safety, who were nationally-recognized by the National Hurricane Center, will present this free Hurricane Preparedness Symposium.
