How to Walk the Via Dolorosa: The Most Popular Route in Jerusalem
How to Walk the Via Dolorosa: The Most Popular Route in Jerusalem (Backpack Israel)

Vaya Con Dios…

translates to ‘Go with God’ and is reciprocated with ‘May God be with you.’

This lovely farewell term bidding those who are departing with God’s safety and blessings, is typically verbalized within religious contexts, climactic instances, or before heading out on dangerous journeys.

As a reverent and protective endearment intending well-being by shielding one from hardships and calamities, it is only outdone by the more traditional and solemn expression, ‘Quede con Dios,’ which means ‘Stay with God,’ and is rarely encountered anymore.

Stay. With. God.

Holy week has begun with Jesus riding into Jerusalem with His Disciples at his side.

Are you standing at His side?

Are you Staying with God?

His triumphant entrance is electrifying with cheers and accolades lauded at His arrival.

It is easy to Stay with God in times of merriment and joy, but can your faith withstand the challenges and heartaches?

Do you detach at the first sign of trouble?

Within days Jerusalem’s revelry will sour like spoiled milk, filling citizens and officials with acrimonious contempt that eroded beliefs and callously pivoted to scrutiny, cruelty, rejection, and abandonment.

Opinions can change in an instant.

Via dolorosa is the excruciating and sorrowful path Jesus endured from Jerusalem to Calvary lugging a Cross, spat upon, mocked, unclothed, jeered, and humiliated.

It was a punitive and deranged journey for One who had not sinned and was denied due diligence.

Jesus’ agony was monumental.

You may have had some distressing moments also.

Christ died and was gloriously resurrected.

How many times have you ‘died’ a little from a harrowing situation only to be resurrected to a better day?

Life is filled with mini deaths and each breeds a renewed life in wonderous manners: the cycles of day and night, seasons, and physical death that ushers us to everlasting life and a novel way of being.

We are made of energy, and that energy is never lost, only transformed.

On Earth, we endeavor with daily struggles and overcome them through prayer, action, and God’s grace and mercy.

Jesus’ arduous processional route is marked by the stations of the Cross.

Perhaps your life has instances of suffering that have left indelible stains?

We all bear these inconsolable blemishes, but if we travel with God as our guide, we are granted leniency and comforted by the One who endured condemnation and horrendous abuse.

Walking the walk and talking the talk have never been more important with all the modern-day plagues, diffused focus, and avoidant behaviors.

It is time to narrow the broad frenetic view and ‘Stay with God’ because the journey will require more than human strength and tenacity.

It must be God powered.

Stay with God, my friend.

~” The Father and I are one,” John 10:30.
