Preparing for prayer at the top of a high mountain was customary millennia ago, but what followed was extraordinary and shook and frightened them beyond measure rattling them into bewilderment.

Behold, Jesus’s face instantaneously changed in appearance and was illuminated like the sun while He prayed, and His body and clothing were filled with the brightest radiating light.

Stranger yet, Moses and Elijah, representative figures of the Old Testament’s law and prophets, appeared conversing with Jesus about His impending exodus from Jerusalem via death, resurrection, and ascension to His ultimate glory.

The baton is passed in smooth succession with one witnessing an authority exchange of past to present, which is sealed with God’s bold declarative, “This is my beloved son. Listen to him,” Mark 9:7.

This juxtaposes the Old and New Testament with the Israelite’s mass exodus from Egypt to the promised land with Jesus now the promised destiny and recalls and equates the Transfiguration’s mountainous location to Moses on Mount Sinai receiving The Lord’s Commandments.

History seems to get recycled and repeated in a similar fashion with only the dates and players changing.

This repetition has a pattern and purpose as many are not consciously attentive or acknowledging God’s Will, which is always in motion.

This scene also occurred days after Jesus spoke of His timely departure and demise, and could be viewed as a confirmation of His declaration.

The Lord’s transfiguration in Jerusalem over two thousand years ago lead to His proclaimed and accepted Consubstantiation with God the Father, and transubstantiation worldwide at Mass through Christ’s real presence in the Eucharist simultaneously while the simple substances of bread and wine remain as such.

God reveals what He wants known.

It is time to recognize and praise The Holy One’s awesome-ness. What’s in plain sight that you’re missing?

~ “And the Lord came and stood, calling as at other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ And Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant hears,’” 1 Samuel 3:10. ~
