Whither Thou

Goest

Katherine will be married Saturday.

And if fate doesn’t intervene, I will be not only an honored guest, but the only grandparent in attendance.

There are obvious reasons, the loss of both grandfather’s early in Kat’s life.

Also the remnants of Covid resulting in her other beloved Grandmother being unable to travel.

Yet, when I watch our youngest grandchild take her vows, I know I will not be alone.

Joan and Bill, her Mother’s parents, may not be visible but I know their hearts are joined across the miles and eternity as we share the joy of our remarkable family.

I, too, will have the comfort of my own beloved because he will be standing unseen behind me. Together we will view the beautiful bride we watched emerge into womanhood, move on across country and life, and who has now found her own love.

There are so many words I wish I could find , but none can compare to those of Ruth:

“ Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God”

Once those words were mine and now I give to you, beautiful Katherine.
