Who

Becomes Happier

I’m weary Of the daily updates of the royal feud and

promises of more to come

not only in the well publicized Netflix documentary

but also in an upcoming book.

I’ve endured my own family feuds,

as I believe, at some point in time, most clans do.

Some come and go.

Other discords remain alive and kicking

and most moments of conflict I wish to forget.

Family discord didn’t begin with me or my clan,

nor will it end with Harry and Meghan.

but I really am not interested.

For the first ten years of my life, my beautiful Mother and her lovely sister in law, Rose, were closer than sisters.

Then on a rainy day in a crowded beachfront bungalow, tempers erupted

marking the current publicized discord mild.

My three cousins and I sat transfixed as the energies flowed.

We knew we were watching the end of something, although we were not quite sure exactly what.

The rift separated two loving brothers and their families for close to two decades.

After both brothers had left this world without ever making peace,

the two women resumed their friendship in old age.

I have often had moments of unease remembering the loss for our families,

and now I am deluged with “we said” and “she said” about two other brothers.

And I have to wonder why.

As I question who becomes happier when the river of love is drained

and life becomes emptier.

So, no, the Netflix documentary holds no interest nor does the upcoming book.

However, if a peace pipe were to be smoked, I might be impressed.
