The Winter That Was

And Still Is

WEEK ONE:

It’s snowing.  So pristine, so peaceful, utterly lovely. How wonderful it happened after the holidays when we can truly appreciate Nature’s bountiful beauty.  I just want to sit and watch the flakes fall softly on my world and meditate.  Perhaps I will do just that, and live in the moment.

WEEK TWO:

Snow again.  Nice, time to reevaluate what I accomplished and what I didn’t over the wonderful Christmas season.  Definitely a time to change my eating habits.  I think I will begin a diet.  Perhaps I will call it the Blizzard Diet.  After all, even a blizzard can be a positive adventure.

WEEK THREE:

Find out what's happening in Massapequafor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Surprisingly, snow again.  Unusual, but a perfect time to watch the full set of WALLENDER discs.  I have waited so long for the Swedish version to be released.  Absolutely no reason today not to savor each one without any interruptions.  Roads impassable, no need to go out.  And I just love Krister Henriksson.  Good timing, Mother Nature.

WEEK FOUR:

Again???  WALLENDER was okay, but enough is enough, even of Swedish Detectives.  What to do today?  Must remain positive and productive.  Time to challenge sorting out His Desk.  He would be horrified o see the chaos I have created.  Possibly, go through some old letters, pictures.  Good thing to do.  Make the most of the weather.  It certainly won’t last much loner.

WEEK FIVE:

I CAN’T BELIEVE IT.  Again!  Will I ever leave the house.  Must use the time productively.  Plan on a luncheon party next weekend.  Perfect time to bake.  I have cranberries, walnuts, butter.  Yes, I have all the necessary ingredients.  I will make muffins, and then perhaps a sour cream coffee cake.  We can call it a Goodbye To Winter Luncheon.  I’ll bake today.

WEEK SIX;

The snow started early this a.m, and apparently will continue until midnight.  The roads are slippery, and I am housebound once more. I no longer care about cleaning dresser drawers, making soup, baking bread.  I want to reenter the world.  I must think positively, and list the things I am grateful for and stop watching the snow pelt my windowpanes.

THINGS I AM HAPPY ABOUT:

Buying new Uggs and the new red woolen robe

The lean, lithe, young mailman who rescued my garbage pail from the mound of ice yesterday.

Andrew, my wonderful Doctor, who took my had and walked me over the icy pavement to my car.

My fabulous family, who despite zero temperatures in their own territories, constantly call and Facetime me.

My posse, all who share my faith, my fears and my hopes on a daily basis.

Peapod

And last, but hardly least, BKP, who never failed to plow my driveway. So, as a person who has always made lists, the affirmatives definitely overwhelm the negatives during this WinterThat Was and Still Is, and since Spring is only 15 days away, perhaps I’ll call it a Welcome Spring Luncheon.
