Patchogue Man Running Across Road Struck by Taxi New Year's Morning

Man seriously injured in accident in Patchogue, police say.

A man was seriously injured when he was struck by a taxi in Patchogue early Thursday morning, police said.

According to police, 31-year-old Wilson Sisalima, of Patchogue, ran across West Avenue from west to east at Hammond Street at about 4:15 a.m. when he was hit by a taxi that was heading northbound on West Avenue.

Sisalima was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the taxi, a 47-year-old Patchogue man, was not injured, police said.

The taxi, which is owned and operated by Islandwide Taxi, was impounded for a safety check, police said.

The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
