Police: Man Who Stole Pocketbooks From Cars on East End Arrested in East Patchogue

Man targeted vehicles parked at house farms, police say.

A Blue Point man was arrested on Friday and charged in a series of pocketbook thefts from vehicles parked at horse farms in eastern Suffolk County, police said.

Andre Berube, 37, was arrested at the corner of Sunrise Highway and Route 112 in East Patchogue following an investigation by the Suffolk and Southampton Town police departments.

Police say Berube targeted horse farms predominantly in Manorville and Southampton, and broke into vehicles to steal pocketbooks.

Berube then used the credit cards that were in the pocketbooks to make purchases at various locations, police said.

As the investigation continues, Suffolk Police have charged Berube with six counts of fourth degree grand larceny and one count of fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property. He will also be charged with multiple counts of fourth degree grand larceny by Southampton Town Police.

Berube is being held at the 7th Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
