DA: Man Pleads Guilty to 2012 Rape of Stony Brook House Sitter
East Moriches man will be sentenced to 25 years in prison, officials say.

An East Moriches man will be sentenced to 25 years in prison for raping a female house sitter inside a Stony Brook home in 2012 and later attempting to hire a hit man to kill the woman, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said Thursday.
Patrick O’Sullivan, 23, pleaded guilty Thursday at a court conference in Riverhead to charges of rape, criminal sexual act, burglary, sexual abuse and conspiracy.
Authorities say O’Sullivan wore a mask and carried a loaded rifle when he entered a Stony Brook home through an unlocked door on the night of Nov. 20, 2012.

O’Sullivan fired his weapon twice and sexually assaulted the house sitter after restraining her with duct tape, the DA said.
O’Sullivan faced the conspiracy charge for attempting to hire a hit man while in jail to kill the victim and another person he believed would testify against him, the DA said.

The plot failed when the man O’Sullivan tried to hire to murder the pair notified police, the DA said.
O’Sullivan will be sentenced to 25 years in prison on the rape charge and of up to 25 years on the conspiracy charge, Spota said. Those prison terms will be served concurrently.
