Taxi Passenger Killed in Holtsville Crash
Accident occurred Sunday morning, police say.

A man traveling as a passenger in a taxi died Sunday after the taxi collided with another vehicle on Nicolls Road in Holtsville, police said.
According to police, a 2014 Jeep and a 2006 Ford, which was being operated as a taxicab, were traveling adjacent to each other, south on Nicolls Road, when the vehicles crashed into each other near Express Drive South at about 11:50 a.m.
Both vehicles drove off the road and into the center median, with the taxicab overturning and ejecting the passenger, police said. The passenger, whose named is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.

The driver of the taxi was also transported to Stony Brook, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Jeep was not injured.
The Jeep and the Ford were both impounded for safety checks and the investigation is ongoing.
