Runaway Horse Fatally Struck on Sunrise Highway
Horses escaped from Manorville's Double D Bar Ranch.

A tractor trailer struck and killed a horse that escaped from Manorville’s Double D Bar Ranch early Thursday morning, Suffolk police said.
Police said a 2005 Peterbilt tractor trailer was traveling east on Sunrise Highway, a half mile west of Exit 59, when it struck and killed the runaway horse that was standing in the roadway at about 2:50 a.m.
The 60-year-old male driver of the tractor trailer remained at the scene and was uninjured, police said.

Two additional horses owned by Double D Bar Ranch, which cares for prior abused or unwanted farm animals, that also escaped have now been located and returned home, police said Thursday afternoon.
The investigation is continuing.
