Bellmore-Merrick Hockey Gives Back

Members of the Central School District-wide Bellmore-Merrick Bulldogs ice hockey team spent a weekend giving back to their community in a big way.

The team skated in an exhibition sled hockey game against the Long Island Rough Riders at Newbridge Arena to raise awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that helps support soldiers returning injured from battles in the war on terror.

The next day, the Bulldogs volunteered time out of their skates to prepare brunch for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park. The Ronald McDonald House provides a haven for families with children battling serious illness. The team participated under the leadership of coaches Lee Mattes and Christopher Patten. Mattes and Patten are both teachers at Wellington C. Mepham High School.
