Children, Driver Escape School Bus Before It Bursts Into Flames
The driver saw smoke coming from the engine and got the children off the bus. Then the whole thing caught fire.
A bus driver and the six special-needs children he was transporting managed to get off a school bus in Roosevelt Monday morning before it was completely engulfed in flames.
According to Newsday, the driver saw smoke coming from the engine and got all the children off the bus at 7:51 a.m. on Bennett Avenue in Roosevelt. While they were waiting to be picked up, the bus completely caught fire.
The Roosevelt Fire Department responded and got the fire under control, but the bus was completely destroyed.

Newsday reported that the second bus took the children to Family Residences and Essential Enterprises in Old Bethpage, where they were fine.
