The New York October Festivals Where Hundreds Of Vendors Take Over For A Weekend (takingthekids.com) — Merrick's Fall Festival and Street Fair returns October 23–25, turning five blocks around the Merrick train station into a huge carnival and vendor-filled street party with more than 300 booths. Residents can enjoy Friday night rides, weekend crafts, food, and entertainment, all with free admission and the option to skip parking hassles by taking the train.
   

2. Merrick's Martin Valk takes helm of N.Y. Kiwanis (liherald.com) — Merrick resident Martin E. Valk has just begun his term as governor of the New York District of Kiwanis, bringing decades of service with the Kiwanis Club of Merrick to a statewide leadership role. He and his wife are launching projects to recycle unused sporting goods and expand Little Libraries, and locals interested in getting involved with Merrick Kiwanis can reach out directly by email.
   

3. Harold D. Fayette students become young programmers one step at a time (liherald.com) — Second graders at Harold D. Fayette School in the North Merrick School District recently learned basic coding concepts by arranging tiles into simple 'programs' that triggered dances and jumps. The same hands-on lesson ran at Camp Avenue and Old Mill Road schools, helping local students see how clear instructions combine to solve problems and build early computer science skills.
   

4. Three Bellmore-Merrick students selected for NYSSMA All-State Music Festival (liherald.com) — Bellmore-Merrick families can cheer on three local high school musicians heading to the NYSSMA All-State Music Festival in Rochester this December. The students, from Kennedy and Calhoun, earned top audition scores and will rehearse with renowned conductors before performing at the Eastman Theatre, highlighting both their dedication and the strength of the district's music program.
