'Zero Tolerance' For Violence, Uniondale HS Increases Security
It comes after a student assaulted two other students in the hallway on Monday.

UNIONDALE, NY — In response to an assault and slashing where two students were assaulted and slashed this week at Uniondale High School, the district is increasing security.
Extra security measures are in place at the school for the remainder of this week, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil wrote in an open letter to the community.
She said those protocols will be evaluated to determine if they will be needed next week.

Police say one 18-year-old student was arrested after an argument with two students in the hallway on Monday morning escalated into punches and cuts.
Darrisaw-Akil said a knife was "smuggled" into the school.

The superintendent said the heightened security includes "students, staff, faculty and visitors being requested to remove any laptops or electronics from their bags."
School security will also conduct additional hallway sweeps.
Darrisaw-Akil reminds families that Uniondale High School has a "zero-tolerance policy for instances of violent behavior."
