Cadet Back At West Point After Sex Assault Conviction Overturned

He had been sentenced to more than two decades in prison.

WEST POINT, NY — A West Point cadet who was sentenced to 21 years of confinement after being convicted of sexually assaulting a female classmate in 2016 will be returning to the academy. The conviction of Jacob Whisenhunt was overturned by a panel of three military judges Monday.

The judges said there was no evidence that the woman was threatened by Whisenhunt or made any noise that would have alerted other members of her squad, the Journal News said.

Whisenhunt, who is from Maxwell, Nebraska, had pleaded not guilty to the sexual assault charge and had said the sex was consensual.
