Clerk Accused Of Stealing From Town Coffers

The town clerk was elected to the office since 2014.

CRAWFORD, NY — An Orange County town clerk was accused of stealing from the community for which she worked. State police said Jolene Roy, 44, of Pine Bush, was charged with third-degree grand larceny and first-degree tampering with public records, both felonies, and second-degree falsifying business records, a misdemeanor.

Police said Roy was elected to the position of Crawford town clerk in 2014.

Troopers were contacted by town officials in January about irregularities with the books and accounts within the town clerk's office.

After an investigation, police said that about $20,000 had been stolen by Roy.

She was arraigned in the Town of Wallkill Court and released on her own recognizance.

State police were assisted by the state Comptroller's Office and the Town of Crawford Police Department.
